Videoconferencing Isn’t Always Easy

Working from home for some people is brand new. I have seen some crazy things these past few weeks that made me think “maybe we could all use some helpful tips or reminders.” So, here are my tips for successful videoconferencing from home:

  1. Wear Pants. You never know when you might have to stand up during the call and you do not want to be caught in your PJ pants or boxers!
  2. Put your light in front of the computer and not behind you.
  3. Mute yourself if you are not talking. Enough said.
  4. If you’re in a loud place and don’t have super-fancy headphones, you can use Meet’s live caption feature to display captions in real-time (just like closed captions on TV). This way you are not asking people to repeat things over and over again.
  5. Be real. We are all in the same boat with the kids at home so let them come in and say hi . Don’t get upset or apologize for interruptions.
  6. Avoid a cluttered background with a virtual background! Have some fun with it and add your personality!

Got video tips of your own? We’d love to hear them. Post them on our social media channels! See below.

The Show Will Go On…

During these trying times, it’s difficult to imagine ever getting back together for events, yet we will. As of right now, we are moving forward with the December 9, 2020 WIT event. However, if we need to move it, we will.  As a back up we have secured The Galt House in March 2021. All sponsorships, speakers, tickets, etc. will carry over to the new date.

We are still looking for sponsors so that we can get as many women to the conference as possible.  Support women in tech and help empower, connect, and inspire women.  When one woman helps another woman, amazing things can happen and we all benefit.
