  • 3:05 - 3:40 Be All You Can Be

The best leaders in the world have come out of West Point® — the likes of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, General George S. Patton, and corporate leaders, such as Marsh Carter, former Chairman of the New York Stock Exchange, and Alex Gorsky, CEO of Johnson & Johnson. In many ways, the United States Military Academy (USMA) — West Point® — is synonymous with leadership. Notably, however, the names that most people associate with this venerable institution have included only men. After 150 years of being an all-male bastion, the first classes of women at West Point® faced unbelievable obstacles to graduate. Sara Potecha is one of the first women to successfully navigate what was at times an overtly hostile environment. Through her masterful storytelling skills, Sara describes both the hilarious and the heart wrenching parts of her journey and the leadership lessons she gained. She will teach you how to “own” your situation, fail fast and achieve all you were designed to achieve. Her audiences come away inspired and “armed” with tools to champion their own “battles” and rise to even higher levels of achievement.

Bio

Sara Potecha is an accomplished author, speaker, and consultant who has led cultural transformation initiatives for Fortune 100 and 200 companies and coached hundreds of leaders to higher levels of performance.

A masterful storyteller, Sara is a sought-after speaker on such topics as women in leadership, veteran employment, emotional intelligence, change, resilience, and leadership competency.

Sara began her career as an Army Officer supervising over 300 highly skilled technicians while stationed in Europe. The technical expertise gained through her military service served her well when she began her corporate career working in the Information Technology (IT) department for a large credit card company. However, it was her
leadership skills that propelled her career as she was called upon to address and solve more complex people issues.

Eventually, this led to her to serving as the Director of Change Management for a mortgage company. Always an entrepreneur at heart, Sara launched her highly successful management consulting firm in 2014 and most recently added to her resume by publishing her book and becoming a best-selling author.

In her first non-fiction business book, West Point Woman, Sara delves into fundamental leadership precepts taught to her at a tender age at the United States Military Academy and applied in all her varied roles. She captures her audiences through powerful, and often hilarious, personal stories while teaching her readers how to cultivate the character within.

Sara holds a bachelor’s degree in General Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point and a master’s degree in Organizational Management and Development from Fielding Graduate University. She credentialed as a John Maxwell certified speaker and coach and a National Speakers Association (NSA) certified speaker.
When Sara is not speaking, writing or coaching you will find her outdoors – on a bike, a hike or skiing with her husband and her adult children.
